PHILOSOPHY 102
- Explain in simple terms the Heideggerian concept of Dasein. Distinguish between the two modes of being in the Sartrean existentialist paradigm. In the movie The Bicentenial Man, do you think Andrew finally achieved the level of Dasein? Why? Towards the final stage of Andrew’s life, do you think he became a “being-for-itself”? Why? In the light of all these considerations, do you believe that being unable to age and hence being immortal is still a necessary factor to define what a human being is? Why or why not? (40 points)
- What do you think are the two most significant philosophical moments in the movie? Why? (10 points)
- Of the four (4) views on the relation of humans and machines in Max More’s paper, under what particular view do you classify yourself? Why? (10 points)
- Give two (2) statements form More’s paper which you think they are the most crucial (10 points)
- Make a final evaluation of Philosophy 102 (despite some encountered problems in schedule) as a matter of learning experience in terms of your won understanding of human existence in general and your person in particular.
